My memories of 1970 are leaving school, meeting for the first time the girl that would become my wife. The hits from that year were 'In The Summertime' by Mungo Jerry. 'Spirit In The Sky' from Norman Greenbaum, 'Tears Of A Clown' Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and 'Band Of Gold' by Freda Payne.
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles had masses of hits in the 60's and continued through the 70's. The Motown era continued un-abated till the mid 70's. Internal politics eventually taking it's toll.
The Supremes were one of the greatest girl bands ever and then Diana Ross left, leaving the others far behind and established herself as one of the most successful solo artiste's of all time. From early in the decade the fashion scene created the feather cut hairstyle for men, and boy did we look dishy, or so we hoped. The first unisex hairstyle and it suited the girls as well but I do cringe when I see old pictures now. The mid 70's found me in Spain and the new queen of pop was Donna Summer, 'I Love to Love You Baby' making her the new star of the airwaves.
